We seek a talented, energetic, and highly self-motivated Character Artist for a new MMO game. This person will be a versatile Character Artist with a strong sense of design. This person will take control of various aspects of the art creation process directly related to their branch of artwork and see it through to its final conclusion. Additionally this person will be responsible for contributing high quality artwork on a day to day basis.
The ideal candidate has experience modelling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of characters. A solid grasp of form, colour, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets is essential. The Character Artist must have skill in another art tasks as well - illustration, modelling, texturing, animation, concept drawing - and be well-versed in related tools - 3DS Max, Photoshop, etc. The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about making great games.
Responsibilities:
- Meet and define parameters of responsibility with the Project Leads and Department Heads throughout the development of an MMO project.
- Assist in the development of the basic plan for organising, executing and controlling project activities.
- Prepare regular development schedules and see them through to their successful conclusion.
- Build good relationships and maintain effective communications within teams, senior management and stakeholders throughout production.
- Understand the contractual obligations of an assigned project and effectively convey that understanding to the team.
- Collect and filter relevant data from multiple sources, teams and departments providing decisive instruction and timely feedback to the organisation and project stakeholders.
- Remain completely informed and in control concerning all aspects of the project at all times in order to be able to provide regular complete and in-depth briefings to the department heads, teams and stakeholders sometimes at short notice.
- Possess a good working knowledge of the technical restrictions and specifications for PCs and MMO game development and the consumer marketplace.
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a “hands on” approach to management.
- Experience in game development modelling and texturing environments using 3D Studio and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs).
- A passion for games.
- Skill in one or more of the related creation tasks - illustration, modelling, texturing, animation, concept drawing
- The candidate must have a keen eye for design.
- A portfolio or reel demonstrating strong 3D modelling and texturing skills.
- Candidate’s work must clearly demonstrate exceptional artistic ability and solid technical skills.
Requirements:
- Advanced 3D Studio Max user.
- Exceptional skill in modelling environments as well as other organic forms.
- Demonstrate a broad range of modelling abilities including the mastery of high-poly modelling, patch modelling and normal mapping techniques.
- Strong texture creation skills using Photoshop.
- Self-driven, good communicator and a great team-player.
- Strong technical aptitude related to 3D modelling tools and game engine technologies.
- Complete command of 3D Studio Max’s modelling and texturing tools.
- Must be receptive to art direction and perform well within a collaborative team environment.
- Must be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure.
Plusses:
- Have shipped AAA PC MMO and traditional video game titles as a 3D Character Artist.
- Strong foundation in the traditional arts, including but not limited to figure drawing and illustration.
- A passion for developing online games.
